The 2016 Syllabus has now been published and it includes a number of new classes.

The Royal Wootton Bassett Arts Festival attracted a huge amount of talent this year and the autumn concert, With A Song In My Heart, celebrates this.
Tilly Wale, Harry Apps and Alexander Harris are the young stars of this year’s autumn festival concert.
Alexander has just been accepted into the National Youth Orchestra, beginning in mid-December. Tilly has had success in both the Royal Wootton Bassett Arts Festival and the Swindon Music Festival as well as securing the Catherine Lamber UK Junior Recital Prize and a place at the Two Moors Young Musicians Platform. She is a member of the National Youth Choir and is a sought after soloist with the Swindon Male Voice Choir and the Thamesdown Ladies Choir.
Harry too is studying for his A-levels at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy where he is the lead singer of the Swing Band. The singer took the leading role in the MJ-UK Production of The Clockmaker’s Daughter, The Scarecrow in Stage Smart’s The Wizard of Oz, and this year he was Jack in Theatre Ink’s version of Into The Woods, and Hanschen in Barn Youth Theatre’s Spring Awakening.

The Committee is delighted the Festival is going from strength to strength, and has now reached a monumental ten years! The team look forward to the future which will no doubt bring ever growing examples of new creative talent and vision to the forefront.
In ‘Wiltshire Loves Arts’, the 10th Anniversary Project to perform “Requiem for Soldiers” by local composer Frank Harvey was discussed. See here.
A much enlarged festival with opportunities for people of all ages to enter for classes to compete for awards in Music, Singing, Speech and Drama, Acting and Creative Writing was held on 5, 6 & 7 June in 2009 just outside Swindon in Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire.
The Speech, Drama, Acting, Public Speaking & Creative Writing Section which now includes some very interesting classes in the field of Media as well will next be held in November 2012.
The award of The Xpress Train Trophy for the most outstanding Public Speaker will again be made.
Entry Deadline is 30 September 2012.
Xpress Train Ltd. will again be awarding a special trophy for competition in the festival this year and is also associated with the Doreen Room Memorial Rose Bowl award.

For four years the people of Wootton Bassett honoured British servicemen killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, never failing to pay their respects to the repatriated dead, conveyed in hearses along their high street with painful regularity. Now, they in turn have been honoured, with the bestowal of the royal prefix to the name of their town…
Royal Wootton Bassett – known simply as “Bassett” to locals – witnessed the return of the bodies of 355 servicemen and women between April 2007 and August of this year. The town’s prominence was a chance of geography, lying as it did on the route from RAF Lyneham, the airbase used for repatriations, to Oxford, where bodies are taken for post mortem.
The Princess was watched on by David Cameron and Philip Hammond, the new Defence Secretary, making his first public appearance in the role following the resignation of Liam Fox. Gen Sir Peter Wall, Chief of the General Staff and professional head of the Army, also attended…
Royal status is a privilege, yet it is received with sadness, mindful of the high price paid by our Armed Forces,” said Paul Heaphy, the town’s mayor. “This is not a day for celebration but one for commemoration, one of recognition, and one to mark the beginning of a new chapter for our town. We did not ask for recognition and we find the attention rather humbling.”

Wootton Bassett, the first town in more than 100 years to get the title “Royal”, has unveiled its new road signs.
The Wiltshire town officially becomes Royal Wootton Bassett this week when Princess Anne visits on Sunday. The title was bestowed in recognition of its efforts to honour the UK’s war dead.
Repatriations of fallen troops took place through Wootton Bassett from 2007 until September, when they were moved to RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.
The town is renowned for the dignified and moving way local people lined the high street in silence with their heads bowed to show their respects.

Prime Minister David Cameron announced today that the town Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire, will become Royal Wootton Bassett later this year.
Speaking in the House of Commons, the Prime Minister said:
I recently made a recommendation to Her Majesty the Queen, and I am very pleased today to announce, that Her Majesty has agreed to confer the title ‘Royal’ upon the town, as an enduring symbol of the nation’s admiration and gratitude. The town will become ‘Royal Wootton Bassett’ later this year.
The Prime Minister took the opportunity to thank the people of Wootton Bassett for “their deeply moving and dignified demonstrations of respect and mourning.
The Mayor of Wootton Bassett, Mary Champion, said:
This is a great honour for our community as the repatriations move away from Wootton Bassett.
Whilst we have never sought recognition for our simple act of respect, I am certain that this will serve to reinforce the pride and gratitude we feel for the members of our Armed Services, who will always be in our thoughts.

‘The festival, now in its fourth year, is a way to showcase artistic talent.
This year the organisers have added the category of art, encompassing drawing and painting, photography and 3-D artwork.
Miranda Shirnia, marketing director of the festival, said: “There is a whole new section of art.
“Last year we had 500 entries whereas before it was 30-odd, so it is a different animal now.”
New competitions are also on offer in the speech and drama section, including public speaking, youth debating, business presentations and the intriguing sounding logical grumbling.’

Due to the huge success of the Wootton Bassett Arts Festival last year, an even bigger line-up has been announced for the event this summer. Along with classes in creative writing, music, speech and drama, a new art section will be added, including classes in drawing, painting and photography. Participants can submit their artwork to organisers to be put on display in the town.
